Fix Having To Enter BitLocker Recovery Key at Every Reboot

Written By KAZIPUR Information Technology-KIT on Saturday, January 09, 2016 | Saturday, January 09, 2016

One Lenovo Yoga’s motherboard went dead the other day. After it was returned from repair center, it started to ask for BitLocker recovery key every time when it reboots. It doesn’t matter how many times you entered the key correctly, it just wouldn’t budge.
It’s annoying. Not only do you have to carry the key with you so you can find it every time when you need it, but it’s also hard to type the long 48-digit long right every single time. Luckily, it’s not a hard one to fix. Rather, it’s very easy if you know where to look.
1. Boot into Windows.
2. Open File Explorer, right-click the boot drive that has BitLocker turned on, and choose Manage BitLocker.

3. It opens up BitLocker Drive Encryption applet in Control Panel. Click Suspend protection.

4. Click Yes to confirm that you do want to suspend BitLocker Drive Encryption.

5. Then, in the same BitLocker Drive Encryption window, click Resume protection link.

6. That’s it. Reboot and it should no longer ask for the BitLocker recovery key.
